Anthony Onyemaechi Elumelu popularly known as Tony Elumelu is a serial entrepreneur, economist and philanthropist. He was born in Jos, Nigeria on the 22nd of March, 1963. He bagged a bachelor of science degree in Economics at Ambrose Alli University and went further to the University of Lagos for Msc in Economics. He is married to Awele Vivian Elumelu and they are blessed with seven children.
He is the founder of an African Non profit organization known as The Tony Elumelu Foundation. It was founded in 2010 and has assisted in empowering over 7,000 African entrepreneurs across 54 African countries so far. He also chairs Heirs holding which he started after he left his position as the CEO of UBA in 2010. According to Forbes, he owns 22.2% of the conglomerates share of Transcorp Plc as of 2013, making him the company’s largest individual shareholder. He is recognized as the 31st on the Forbe’s Africa’s 50 richest list 2015, as he worth 700 million dollars.
